Tua Tagovailoa Gives Explanation For Controversial Injury
The Miami Dolphins shocked a lot of people in their 21-19 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. The win wasn't without controversy, though, as Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was pulled during the second quarter to be evaluated for a concussion, only to be back on the field shortly after.
Fans and experts alike wondered how it was possible for Tagovailoa to clear concussion protocol so quickly. The young gunslinger has since attempted to clear the air, telling reporters after the game that he left the game due to a hyperextended back.
Tua Tagovailoa Injury Update
Tagovailoa said the injury occurred on a quarterback sneak during the first half. He then added that his back "locked up" after Bills linebacker Matt Milano hit him in the second quarter — the same play that many assumed Tagovailoa was concussed on after his head hit the turf.
Considering how Tagovailoa had a tough time standing after the Milano hit, it's easy to see why many feared he suffered a concussion. The 24-year-old's return has prompted the NFL Players Association to request an investigation as to how he was allowed to re-enter the game, especially given the NFL's infamous concussion history.
At the end of the day, it's entirely possible that Tagovailoa could have injured his back and suffered a concussion. They're not mutually exclusive. The undefeated Dolphins just need to be 100% sure that he's free of any concussion symptoms before their next game.
Dolphins vs Bengals Week 4 Odds
Regardless of what injury Tagovailoa is dealing with, he doesn't have much time to heal as Miami has a quick turnaround. They're scheduled for a Week 4 Thursday Night Football matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, who are coming off their first win.
It seems that oddsmakers have doubts about Tagovailoa suiting up on Thursday. Despite being 3-0, the Dolphins are 3-point road underdogs this week on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
