Top Fantasy Football Streaming Quarterbacks for Week 9

Updated:

Week 8 of the NFL season featured more low scoring outputs from a few highly drafted quarterbacks. However, a few waiver-wire QBs came through in a big way.

With six teams on bye this week, fantasy managers may be looking for a temporary fill-in. Here's a look at our top three streaming quarterback picks (rostered in fewer than 50% of Yahoo! leagues) to target on the waiver wire.

Streaming QB Fantasy Football Week 9

1. Justin Fields, Chicago Bears (42%)

It seems like the Chicago coaching staff is finally starting to understand how to utilize Justin Fields' skillset. More designed runs and read option plays are being called, which puts the young QB in the driver's set on offense. Fields' fantasy upside comes from his rushing capabilities and he has logged at least 80 yards on the ground or 1 rushing touchdown in each of his last three games. That bodes well for his chances of balling out against a Dolphins' defense that has allowed the fifth-most rushing yards to opposing QBs in 2022 (192). Overall, Miami is giving up the seventh-most fantasy points to the position. Start Fields with confidence on Sunday.

2. Marcus Mariota, Atlanta Falcons (26%)

Much like Fields, Marcus Mariota is known for his ability to scramble more so than he is for his arm strength. The Oregon product is starting to prove that he should not be underestimated as a passer, though. Mariota completed 20 of his 28 pass attempts for a season-high 253 yards and 3 touchdowns (2 interceptions) in Week 8. He is starting to build chemistry with the players around him and that should help him succeed against a Chargers' defense that ranks right in the middle of the pack in total DVOA rating. Los Angeles has also given up 13 passing touchdowns across seven games, so Mariota has a clear opportunity to exceed expectations.

3. Taylor Heinicke, Washington Commanders (7%)

The legend of Taylor Heinicke continues to grow in Washington. The veteran signal-caller has now led the Commanders to back-to-back wins and certainly looks like a viable NFL starter. Heinicke has finished as a top-13 fantasy QB in each of his two starts as well, making him a great streaming option. It's worth noting the Vikings have given up the ninth-most fantasy points to opposing QBs. Minnesota has also posted the 11th-worst pass defense DVOA rating and has given up the seventh-most passing yards (2,058). Wide receivers Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel should have no trouble creating separation against this secondary, which gives Heinicke a higher ceiling than usual this week.
