Tapit Shoes Horse Trainer and Jockey

Tapit Shoes is trained by Brad Cox, who has two other horses (Hit Show, Angel of Empire) in this race as well. Cox's most memorable year on the circuit was in 2021, when he trained the winners of both the Kentucky Derby (Mandaloun) and the Belmont Stakes (Essential Quality), plus the victor at the Breeders' Cup Classic (Knicks Go).

Tapit Shoes' jockey for the 2023 Belmont Stakes is Jose Ortiz. The 29-year-old has enjoyed his own success at the Belmont Stakes, winning here in 2017 while riding Tapwrit. He also won the 2022 Belmont Stakes, giving him his second Triple Crown victory.

Tapit Shoes Belmont Stakes Prediction and Pick

It's not a surprise to see Tapit Shoes as one of the biggest longshots in the 2023 Belmont Stakes. He hasn't put together as strong of a resume as other participants in this race with just one career win, which came all the way back in December 2022.

That being said, the colt has made the podium or finished just outside of it in all three outings so far during 2023. He clearly has the talent to challenge for a top spot, even in a crowded field.

With a trainer and jockey who've both won here before, it's possible Tapit Shoes surprises some on Saturday. Starting from the famed No. 1 spot is just another reason to believe in Tapit Shoes' chances at the Belmont Stakes.
