The next big fight on the June Boxing calendar is here. Stephen Fulton unified the WBC and WBO super bantamweight titles in his last fight with a win over Brandon Figueroa, and he'll now make his first unified title defense against Daniel Roman. Roman is a former WBA, IBF and WBA-NABA Super Bantamweight champion, but he lost his belts in a split decision to Murodjon Akhmadaliev back in January 2020.

Back-to-back-to-back wins since then, over Juan Carlos Payano and Ricardo Espinoza Franco, have Roman back in title contention this weekend.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that the undefeated Fulton is a big favorite over a 32-year-old journeyman in Roman.

Fulton is no stranger to the pressure that comes with being a big favorite either, closing at better than -400 in four of his last five fights. Of course, with his most recent three wins all coming on points, it's also unsurprising that you can get some pretty long odds on his KO/TKO prop.

Stephen Fulton vs Daniel Roman Prediction

I never want to write someone off in a split decision, which generally indicates a super close fight, but it's hard not to read something into Roman's loss to Akhmadaliev in 2020. Akhadaliev is a tough opponent, for sure, but he's also not on Fulton's level. You'd want Roman to look a lot more convincing in his most recent fights before picking him over Fulton.

Fulton just had a close fight too, but he got a majority decision nod, and that was over Brandon Figueroa, who is nearly the consensus pick as the No. 2 super bantamweight in the world.

We've also got Fulton in the middle of his prime at 27 years old, while Roman is nearing the end of it at 32. He's not washed up or anything, but if age is going to come into play here we can expect it to work in Fulton's favor.

Fulton's power may be getting a little underrated after scoring a few decisions in a row, but a slight step down in competition could give him a chance to show off how dangerous his hands are this week. It's not the most likely outcome, but it's got the most appealing odds.

Bet Fulton to win by KO/TKO (+430)
