Steelers Wide Receiver Involved in Trade Rumors Ahead of Deadline
The Pittsburgh Steelers haven't been afraid to switch things up early in the 2022 season. With the trade deadline approaching, more changes could be on the horizon for a struggling team.
Now, one wide receiver is the subject of trade rumors ahead of November.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports Chase Claypool is garnering interest from opposing teams. Fowler highlights Claypool as a potential target for the Green Bay Packers, who are dealing with a depleted receiving corps due to injuries. The ESPN insider also adds "multiple execs" believe Claypool was "available in the preseason, though at a hefty price."
The wideout popping up in trade rumors isn't especially surprising. He's seen a significant drop-off in usage this year behind Diontae Johnson, and rookie George Pickens is proving to be a serious threat for the WR2 role. As a result, Claypool posted an underwhelming 16 receptions and 129 yards over the first five games before breaking out for 7 catches and 96 yards in Week 6.
That showing this past Sunday could help revive Claypool's value on the trade market. The former second-round pick is only 24 years old and notched at least 860 yards in each of his first two seasons, so the Steelers could get solid compensation if they do decide to move on.
It remains to be seen what shakeups Pittsburgh's roster undergoes by the deadline, which is slated for Nov. 1.
