Santa Anita Horse Racing Picks for Friday 1/27/23

The Santa Anita Classic Meet continues, and Friday's features 8 races with post time to start the day at 3:30 p.m. ET.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races after adjusting for track, distances, and conditions).

Race 6 is an Allowance race for 3-year-olds at 6 1/2 furlongs on the downhill turf. A short field of 5, and For A Laugh (5/2) is the top pick breaking from the rail with the meet's leading jockey Juan Hernandez riding. He missed against stakes company last race in October after breaking his maiden in August in his US debut and fourth start.

Mas Rapido (4/1) finished 4th here in stakes company in October.

3. Flint Stroll and Caisson, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 9/5 and 12/1

Race 8 is a Starter Optional Claimer for older horses at 1 1/8 miles on the turf. Flint Stroll (9/5) with Juan Hernandez riding is the numberFire top pick. He won here last summer and has three in-the-money finishes in five starts since.

Caisson (12/1) could surprise from the outside No. 9 post. He has solid speed figures but was winless in nine starts last year. General Mathis (3/1) has been off for nearly 11 months.
