Rockies Avoid Scare on Latest C.J. Cron Injury Update

Updated:

The Colorado Rockies were 6-5 victors over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night but lost a player in the process. First baseman C.J. Cron's left wrist was hit by a pitch during the fifth inning, leading to the veteran early exit.

Fortunately, Cron's situation could have been much worse. Although the Rockies aren't thrilled that he's hurt, his X-ray results came back negative and all reports point to his status as being day-to-day.

C.J. Cron Injury Update

The Rockies are labelling Cron's injury as a "wrist contusion" following his X-ray results. The belief is that he won't have to spend any time on the injured list, meaning that Colorado really avoided the worst-case scenario here.

Cron's first season with the Rockies in 2021 was a success, leading to a two-year, $14.5 million extension back in October. At the halfway point of the 2022 MLB season, the 32-year-old has proven that extending him was a great decision.

The New York Mets' Pete Alonso is the only National League player with more RBIs (69) than Cron's 66 this season. The Rockies' slugger leads his team with 20 home runs — seven more than the next player — and 49 runs scored while slashing a career-best .295/.350/.551.

With the Rockies unlikely to make the 2022 MLB postseason, they'll give Cron as much time as he needs before coming back. Hopefully, he won't be out of the lineup for too long because he's one of few things that Rockies fans have had to cheer about this year.
