Reds Get Great News With Tyler Stephenson Injury Update

Updated:

Third baseman Brandon Drury has the best case to be the Cincinnati Reds' All-Star representative right now, but that would likely be catcher Tyler Stephenson if he remained healthy. The 25-year-old took a major step toward his return from injury when he was sent on a rehab assignment Monday.

Tyler Stephenson Injury Update

Stephenson will join the Triple-A Louisville Bats, taking in his first game action since fracturing his thumb back on June 9. He was hit on his non-glove hand by a foul ball and originally given a recovery timeline of 4-6 weeks. Seeing Stephenson back on the field in less than a month is a great sign.

It's interesting to note this will be the first time Stephenson has ever played at the Triple-A level. He spent the entire 2019 season at Double-A and then perfected his skills at the team's alternate site in 2020. Of course, Stephenson made the 2021 Opening Day roster and has never looked back.

Reds fans have to be anxiously awaiting Stephenson's return considering he has been their best hitter in 2022. The 2015 first-round pick is slashing .305/.361/.468 across 42 games to go along with 21 runs scored, 5 HRs and 31 RBI. His 66 total bases still ranks fifth among Cincinnati sluggers.

Stephenson won't be the only one rehabbing at Triple-A as outfielder Tyler Naquin works his way back from a quad issue. He went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple on Saturday night.

The Reds have odds set at +500000 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
