Red Sox Legends' Sons Join Forces in Prestigious Summer League

Updated:
Boston Red Sox fans look back on the 2004 MLB season with fond memories considering the team broke an 86-year championship drought by winning the World Series. That was a long time ago, though. In fact, the sons of some legends on that team are now playing together in a summer league.

Outfielder Pedro Martinez Jr., first baseman Manny Ramirez Jr., third baseman D'Angelo Ortiz and pitcher Kade Foulke have all joined forces on the Brockton Rox of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. Jaden Sheffield, the son of New York Yankees' staple Gary Sheffield, is also on the squad.
The players collectively called "The Sons" are focused on bettering their game on the field and want to do anything they can to build a name for themselves. After all, each of the five young competitors will be in college during the fall and have hopes of one day making it to the major leagues.
These kids are used to the attention at this point in their lives, but the rest of the Rox team certainly has not. The attendance for Brockton home games have doubled since last season as fans come in hopes of seeing MLB legends like David Ortiz or Pedro Martinez in the crowd alongside them.
Being around people that have gone through the same childhood experiences as them has made "The Sons" a lot less lonely in the sport and provided new learning opportunities, too. Anyone looking to keep tabs on the boys can check their statistics throughout the summer on BrocktonRox.com.
