Raise Cain Kentucky Derby Horse Odds, History and Predictions (Lack of Trainer, Jockey Experience Hinders Colt)

Updated:

Kentucky Derby betting is finally here. In just a few short days, 20 of the world's best horses will participate in the 149th Run for the Roses and aim for eternal glory.

One Kentucky Derby contender everyone has their eyes on is Raise Cain. Here's everything you need to know about this colt before he vies for the 2023 crown.

Raise Cain Kentucky Derby Odds and Post Position

Raise Cain currently has 15/1 odds to win the 2023 Kentucky Derby after the post positions were announced on Monday.

As far as Raise Cain's pole position goes, he'll be racing out of the No. 16 spot. Over the Kentucky Derby's existence, only four horses have won in that position. Animal Kingdom is the most recent competitor to have accomplished the feat, doing so in 2011.

Raise Cain Horse Trainer and Jockey

Raise Cain is trained by Ben Colebrook. The accomplished trainer has seen a fair amount of success over the years, including victories at the 2018 Claiborne Breeders' Futurity and 2014 Pin Oak Valley View. His horses have seven victories through 54 starts in 2023.

Raise Cain's jockey for the 2023 Kentucky Derby is Gerardo Corrales. The accomplished racer is making his Derby debut this year. Corrales has already ridden horses to 50 victories in 2023, adding 43 second-place finishes and another 43 third-place showings along the way.

Raise Cain Race History

Raise Cain has a career record of four starts with one win and another second-place finish. He enters the Derby following a fifth-place showing at Keeneland back on April 8.

Raise Cain Kentucky Derby Prediction and Pick

There are too many things working against Raise Cain to consider him a worthwhile Kentucky Derby pick. For starters, his trainer and jockey have yet to compete at the annual event. Secondly, Raise Cain's only previous showing at Churchill Downs saw him finish eighth at the Maiden Special Weight.

Upsets have happened in Louisville in the past, but I don't see Raise Cain being the catalyst for one in 2023.
