Quincy Williams Shares Unconvincing Apology Following Jalen Hurts Hit

Though NFL preseason games are largely uneventful, that wasn't the case when the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles met on Friday. Jets linebacker Quincy Williams hit Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts when the signal-caller was already out of bounds during the first quarter, drawing the ire of the Philadelphia bench.

Williams tried to apologize for the hit on Saturday, but his apology was anything but convincing.

Williams told reporters that he "should've slowed down" and that he "wasn't paying attention to where the sideline was," labelling it as a "learning moment." If he was a rookie, that'd be a passable excuse, but the 25-year-old is entering his fourth NFL season. There's just no excuse for what he did.

Even Jets head coach Robert Saleh was unimpressed with Williams' bone-headed play. The New York bench was called the hit "egregiously awful" and says that the veteran linebacker "knows better."

Joining the Jets in 2021, Williams had a career year that saw him record 110 tackles, two sacks, three forced fumbles and five defended passes. He did have one of the Jets' six roughing the passer calls last year, so clearly he needs to work on his discipline as far as quarterbacks are concerned.

Fortunately, Hurts wasn't injured on the play and managed to return for a touchdown drive. Still, it was an unnecessary moment that should've been avoided and time will tell if Williams truly learned from his mistake.
