Players to Drop for Week 6 Waiver Wire Pickups in Fantasy Football

The NFL and fantasy football seasons are rolling along after five weeks of thrilling action. Week 6 is the first major wrinkle on the league calendar thanks to the introduction of byes. Four teams will be on byes in Week 6 and that means some tough roster decisions must be made in order to make room for streaming options.

You'll regret cutting ties with high-upside players too early, but you also don't want duds hanging around taking up valuable bench space.

Fantasy Football Players to Drop

With that in mind, here are three players--all rostered in at least 50 percent of Yahoo! fantasy football leagues--that you can drop to make space for Week 6 wavier wire pickups.

1. Tyler Boyd, WR, Cincinnati Bengals (56% Rostered)

Joe Burrow's pecking order of preferred receivers remains largely the same in 2022, with the introduction of a more reliable pass-catching tight end. The Bengals are Ja'Marr Chase's team, as evidenced by his 28% target share. Tee Higgins and tight end Hayden Hurst are the next options with 28 targets apiece, followed closely by running back Joe Mixon at 27. Then, finally, there's Tyler Boyd, who ranks fifth on the team in targets with 23 (12.2%). The red zone targets are another red flag, considering that Boyd has garnered just 2 of the team's 31 red zone looks. The volume and high-value targets aren't there and it's time to move on, even with Boyd playing in such a high-powered offense.

2. Michael Carter, RB, New York Jets (71% Rostered)

Rookie running back Breece Hall is taking over the Jets' backfield one week at a time. He erupted for a season-high 18 carries and 97 rushing yards in Week 5 and that trend is here to stay. On the other side is Michael Carter, who has seen his snap share fall in three straight weeks from 61% to 42%. Hall is clearly outproducing Carter at this point and is earning a larger share of the workload because of it. Carter is also being used less near the goal line and holds just 8 red zone rushing attempts to Hall's 10. This is the most comfortable drop of the week.

3. Darrell Henderson, RB, Los Angeles Rams (73% Rostered)

The healthy return of Cam Akers continues to eat into Darrell Henderson's role on the Rams' offense. In fact, I don't like either of these running backs particularly much because Sean McVay has all but abandoned his run game. LA ranks first in the league with an insane 66.7% pass percentage. Meanwhile, Henderson's opportunities continue to drop by the wayside. He recorded exactly 0 rushing attempts in Week 5 despite playing in 57% of the offensive snaps. His average of 3.0 targets per game gives him some slight upside, but it's time to move on. Henderson checks in as RB44 in PPR formats thus far and is not worth a roster spot in 73% of fantasy leagues.
