Padres Sign Another Former Red Sox Player in Free Agency

The Padres made a big splash last week with the singing of Xander Bogaerts to a huge 1-year contract, prying him away from the Boston Red Sox.

San Diego is clearly looking to be active this offseason, as we found out later they were also in on both Trea Turner, Aaron Judge and Christian Vazquez. San Diego did make another move on Tuesday, albeit one with less fanfare, but it was also another former Red Sox player they brought in.

The Padres signed pitcher Anderson Espinoza to a minor-league deal.

Espinoza used to be in the Red Sox organization, but was with the Chicago Cubs in 2022, appearing in just seven games, and struggled a bit in his first big-league season, pitching to a 5.40 ERA. He did average more than a strikeout per inning, though.

It's a low-risk move for the Padres, taking a chance on a young kid with lots of potential. It doesn't seem like San Diego is done this offseason either.
