Packers Steal Dominant Pass Rusher in Todd McShay's First 2023 Mock Draft

One of the key catalysts in the Green Bay Packers' underwhelming season has been the defense taking a huge step back. Coaching issues and injuries certainly have played a role, but they've also simply struggled to perform in key areas.

In his first 2023 mock, ESPN's Todd McShay projects Green Bay to target some major defensive help.

McShay has the Packers selecting EDGE Myles Murphy with the No. 14 overall pick. He's considered one of the top defensive prospects in the entire draft, and Green Bay should scoop him up if an early run on quarterbacks pushes Murphy down the draft board.

Murphy has been an absolute force at Clemson from the very moment he stepped on the field. He posted an impressive 10.5 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks and 3 forced fumbles as a freshman in 2020. The stud then followed that up with a career year in 2021, posting 14.5 TFL, 8.0 sacks and 2 FF.

Despite earning draft buzz, Murphy kept his foot on the gas this season, recording another 11.0 TFL, 6.5 sacks and 1 FF.

At 6-foot-5, 275 pounds, Murphy is a physical beast that would wreak havoc off the edge for the Packers. This unit desperately needs someone that can get to the QB with consistency after recording the sixth-fewest sacks over the first 13 games of the year.

Murphy could fill the void left by Rashan Gary, and he'd form an imposing duo with the latter once he recovers from his torn ACL.
