Oliver Marmol Takes Shot at Cubs for Using Position Player on the Mound

The St. Louis Cardinals are riding a 10-game winning streak and it has strengthened their lead in the National League Central division. Still, games down the stretch are going to mean everything to this team. That's why manager Oliver Marmol wasn't exactly happy with the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday.

Marmol took note after the game how three players on his roster were hit by pitches. Nolan Arenado was hit in the seventh inning, Andrew Knizer was hit in the eighth and Albert Pujols was hit in the ninth. All three came when the Cardinals were up by at least six runs and Pujols was hit by a position player.

Marmol revealed his reaction to slugger Franmil Reyes being on the mound to close out the game for the Cubs with a simple statement. He said, "it's not a tryout." Much like any other instance a position player is called into action, Reyes entered when the game was out of reach. St. Louis led 12-3 at the time.

This development is important to keep in mind considering these squads meet up on Wednesday and Thursday to finish up a five-game divisional series. Tensions seem to be rising and Marmol is at the front of it all. Things could get chippy on either side if another player ends up getting hit by a pitch.
