Nick Chubb Squashes Baker Mayfield Bad Teammate Rumors

Updated:

Rumors have been making their way to the surface that quarterback Baker Mayfield hasn't been the best teammate during his time on the Browns roster. Cleveland running back Nick Chubb made sure to squash that idea by providing his sincere thoughts on the situation at OTAs on Wednesday .

Cleveland Browns News

Chubb mentioned that Mayfield is one of his best friends and that he'll be ready to play wherever he ends up. Of course, the Heisman Trophy winner awaits a trade or release after Cleveland traded for Deshaun Watson in the offseason. Mayfield has not appeared at any team workouts as a result.

Mayfield and Chubb both entered the league as a part of the Browns' 2018 draft class and spent the first four years of their career together in the backfield. They each played a crucial role in ending the franchise's lengthy playoff drought in 2020 and spearheaded a powerful rushing offense.

While it won't be with Mayfield, Chubb is going to do everything he can to help the Browns win games in the fall. The 26-year-old has totaled 5,567 yards from scrimmage and 39 total touchdowns across four years and drawn three Pro Bowl nods. Chubb also averages 5.3 yards per carry in his career.

Meanwhile, Mayfield will hope to land with a team that he can attempt to earn the starting gig with. Some fans may have soured on the veteran QB, but teammates like Chubb certainly haven't. The Browns currently have odds set at +2000 to win Super Bowl 57, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
