Nets Record Without Kyrie Irving Off to Troubling Start in Brooklyn

Six-time NBA All-Star and 2011 NBA Draft No. 1 overall pick Kyrie Irving may have moved on to the Brooklyn Nets in the 2019-20 offseason following a two-year stint with the Celtics, but some of his most recent team's success without him on the floor already appears to have carried over to Brooklyn.

The Celtics saw considerable success in both of Kyrie's two seasons with Boston from 2017-19, but that's not to say he had an integral role in leading them to it. In fact, the Celtics finished with a better record in both the regular and postseason without Kyrie on the floor. And now that Kyrie has already missed more games with the Nets than he has played this season, that regular-season trend has continued in Brooklyn.

Of the 53 games Brooklyn has played thus far in the 2019-20 season, Kyrie has already missed 33 of them, and the Nets have posted a 17-16 (.5152) record without him. Brooklyn also entered the 2020 NBA All-Star Break on a 4-1 stretch in the Nets' last five games without Kyrie.

Perhaps, most troubling is Brooklyn's record with Kyrie on the floor this season. In just the 20 total games the Nets have played with Kyrie this season, Brooklyn has gone 8-12 (.400). Granted, 20 games is a small sample, but that .400 winning percentage is noticeably worse than both the Nets' overall 25-28 (.4717) record and their 17-16 (.5152) record in games without Kyrie this season.

Kyrie is still widely considered one of the top individual talents in the league, especially at the point guard position, but it just goes to show that doesn't always translate to a winning talent in a league like the NBA.
