Mets Reveal Official September Call Ups

Updated:

With MLB rosters expanding from 26 to 28 players on Thursday, each team gets to call up two players to help down the stretch. The New York Mets have opted to add infielder Deven Marrero and relief pitcher Adonis Medina as they attempt to lock down the NL's No. 1 seed.

This will be Marrero's second stint with the Mets this season. He appeared in three games during the month of August, going hitless in four at-bats with a pair of strikeouts. The 32-year-old was then designated for assignment before he cleared waivers and accepted a spot at the Triple-A level.

Overall, Marrero owns a .192/.247/.280 slash line across seven MLB seasons (176 games). He has posted 55 runs scored, 10 doubles, six home runs, 38 RBI and 12 stolen bases. His defensive versatility makes him stick out, though, as he can play any position in the infield for New York.

Mets fans are already familiar with Adonis Medina considering he has made 13 appearances for the team in 2022. The 25-year-old owns a 1-0 record, 4.63 ERA and 1.29 WHIP across 23.1 innings. Medina figures to be a bullpen depth piece for manager Buck Showalter to use before the playoffs.

These call ups mean that Mets fans will have to wait a bit longer to see top infield prospect Mark Vientos make his highly-anticipated MLB debut. For now, the Mets are holding onto a 3.0 game lead in the NL East and have odds set at +480 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
