Melvin Gordon Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Is He Still a Good Fantasy Pick?)
Melvin Gordon formed quite the tandem with Javonte Williams in the Denver Broncos' backfield last season. The veteran rusher finished the year as RB21 in PPR fantasy football formats, leaving managers hungry for more ahead of his eighth NFL campaign.
Split backfields can be tricky to predict, though. While it worked out last season, the Broncos have a new look with Nathaniel Hackett as the head coach and quarterback Russell Wilson under center. Through those changes, is Gordon still a good player to roster in 2022?
Melvin Gordon Fantasy Football Outlook
The Broncos did well when it came to evenly dividing the workload between Gordon and Williams. Each man saw exactly 203 carries a piece, resulting in 918 rushing yards and eight touchdowns for the former. Gordon also saw 38 passes thrown his way, catching 28 of them for 213 yards and another two ground scores.
Even with the changes that the offense has undergone, the Broncos are expected to split rushing duties between their talented duo once again. Wilson's presence at quarterback should help Gordon and Williams a lot more than Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater did, though.
If the Broncos' offense can live up to its potential, Gordon should see plenty of opportunities to run out the clock. With juicy matchups against teams like the Houston Texans, Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars within the first five weeks, it'll be interesting to see what kind of damage the Denver rusher can do early on.
Melvin Gordon Projections
Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook are quite low on Gordon. For instance, he's currently tied with eight other players for the 32nd-best odds (+7500) to lead the league in rushing yards. He's also available at +5000 (T-No. 28) to be the 2022 NFL rushing TDs leader.
Is Melvin Gordon a Good Fantasy Football Pick?
Playing on a high-powered offense in Denver, Gordon has a solid opportunity to be a good fantasy pick. He can clearly produce despite splitting duties with Williams and if the sophomore RB ever gets hurt, Gordon will likely be handed the lion's share of backfield snaps.
Gordon comes in as the RB32 on The Duel's PPR fantasy rankings, a bit lower compared to where he finished last year. Nevertheless, he holds an average draft position of 99.7 on Fantasy Pros, meaning he likely won't be available beyond the middle of Round 8 in 12-team leagues.
