Marlins Get Good News on Latest Edward Cabrera Injury Update
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera hasn't been able to stay healthy in the 2022 MLB season. While he's pitched well when his health allows him to play, he's been sidelined since the middle of June with right elbow tendinitis. Naturally, fans wonder when he'll make his MLB return.
Fortunately, Cabrera's return program has gone well in recent weeks, resulting in a strong Triple-A rehab start on Thursday. The 24-year-old righty pitched five innings against the Gwinnett Stripers, striking out seven batters without allowing a run on only one hit.
Edward Cabrera Injury Update
Cabrera looked sharp in two starts with Double-A Pensacola earlier in July, which only adds to the optimism following his performance with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimps. Although another rehab start could be on the table, it's possible that he could return for the Marlins' series next week against the New York Mets.
The fact that Cabrera's rehab has gone well is encouraging for his chances of picking up from where he left off. Before he was hurt, Cabrera had gone 2-1 in three starts this year, pitching to a 3.45 ERA and 1.213 WHIP. On top of that, he struck out 15 batters in 15.2 innings, allowing nine walks, too.
The Marlins are only five games back of the National League's final wild card spot. Getting a healthy Cabrera back in the rotation would help with that quest, especially if his injury-plagued ways are officially a thing of the past.
