Mariners Get Very Concerning News With Latest Eugenio Suarez Injury Update

Updated:

The Seattle Mariners were given a scare Friday night when third baseman Eugenio Suarez exited the 8-7 loss to the Los Angeles Angels with a finger injury. Unfortunately, the latest update on the veteran's injury is very concerning.

Mariners manager Scott Servais said that Suarez's X-ray results came back as "inconclusive," according to team insider Daniel Kramer. While further testing should provide more answers, this news doesn't leave room for much optimism.

Seattle Times' Ryan Divish also reports that Servais considers the situation to be "very concerning." Suarez's injury occurred when his right index finger was hit by a ground ball. After flying out in the fifth, he exited the game and didn't return.

Regardless, the club should have more answers after he undergoes more scans on Saturday.

With the Mariners holding on to an AL Wild Card spot, losing Suarez for any amount of time would hurt. The former All-Star paces his teammates in home runs (31) and RBIs (84) while sitting second in walks drawn (71), total bases (240) and WAR (4.6).

Infielder Abraham Toro has often filled in for Suarez at third base when the latter has been out of the lineup this season. Despite an underwhelming .181 batting average, Toro has still managed to record nine HRs and 30 RBIs in 282 at-bats while maintaining a .975 fielding percentage over 150 innings at the hot corner.

Mariners World Series Odds

Hopefully, for the sake of Seattle's championship odds, Suarez's next scans bring better results. For now, the Mariners own the eighth-best 2022 World Series odds (+2000) on FanDuel Sportsbook.
