Mariners Get Bad News on Ken Giles Injury Update
The Seattle Mariners are feeling good after outlasting the Toronto Blue Jays in an 11-inning affair on Friday. Unfortunately, it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows for the Mariners. Relief pitcher Ken Giles left the game in the eighth inning with a shoulder injury after facing just one batter.
Ken Giles Injury Update
Mariners manager Scott Servais told reporters after that game that Giles his pitching shoulder was feeling tight. The veteran hurler tried to loosen it, but nothing ultimately helped, leading to his premature exit.
Giles has been fantastic for the Mariners ever since he was activated from the 60-day injured list two weeks ago. He's played five games so far, striking out six batters while giving up four walks and one hit without a run in 4.1 innings.
Hopefully, Giles' injury isn't too serious, however, fans have the right to be cautious. Including this season, the 31-year-old has been limited to just nine games played since the beginning of 2020. Tommy John surgery led to him missing last season, while a finger tendon issue was the reason he begin the 2022 campaign on the IL.
Mariners fans will likely find out more about Giles' status and a potential return timetable in the upcoming days. He's a key player that the Mariners need to be healthy if they want to improve on their +12000 odds (No. 18) to win the 2022 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
