Manny Machado Latest Injury Update Takes Great Turn for Padres

Updated:

Things were not looking good for Manny Machado as recently as 24 hours ago. He injured his ankle on Sunday, and Monday's reports were that he would be out through the All-Star break.

Machado, however, seems to have a bit of Wolverine in him, and suddenly it looks like his return timeline is a lot more imminent.

Manny Machado Injury Return

Machado was spotted strolling through the San Diego Padres' clubhouse with no limp on Tuesday — less than 48 hours after suffering what seemed like a pretty serious ankle injury.

He didn't have the time to stop and talk with reporters, as he was presumably on his way for more rehab, but teammate Jake Cronenworth had some optimistic thoughts, suggesting that Machado could be back in "a week or so."

Obviously we can't take Cronenworth's word as gospel here, and an update from the team would be a lot more meaningful, but combining these comments with Machado already walking without a limp paints a pretty exciting picture for Padres fans.

With the injury concerns looking relatively minor for the long term, Machado and the Padres still sit tied for No. 6 (+1300) in FanDuel Sportsbook's World Series odds.
