Manny Machado Calls Out David Ortiz on Live TV For His Game 2 Picks

Updated:

The San Diego Padres entered their NLDS clash with a tall task. Beating the 111-win Los Angeles Dodgers in a series described much like a 'David vs Goliath' type matchup. Don't tell that to Padres superstar, the lifeblood of the team, Manny Machado.

Fox Sports handles coverage for this NLDS clash, including the pregame duties from their studio team with David Ortiz and Alex Rodriguez. The studio team makes picks and predictions for each matchup and swayed heavily in favor of the Dodgers on Wednesday night, especially after getting out to a 1-0 series lead.

Shortly after San Diego notched the game at 1-1 and stole home field advantage away from their division rivals, Machado took an opportunity to call out Ortiz on national television. Check out the clip below.

Big Papi's colleagues ask him why he's texting during the live broadcast before he holds up his phone and says "Machado." With a big laugh and smile on his face, Ortiz then reveals the exact nature of the text, "he's asking me, now what?!"

Just another example of the ultra-competitive mindset that led Machado to six All-Star appearances throughout his career and an MVP-worthy season in 2022. Here's exactly what Ortiz said of the Padres prior to Game 2.

"To be honest with you, the numbers don't lie. Things almost have to go perfect for San Diego to beat the Dodgers," said Ortiz.

They must have gone "perfect" last night, including a 2-for-5, 2-RBI and 1st inning home run from Machado. Unfortunately, the betting markets still don't believe in San Diego's chance at an upset. FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds show the Padres as +154 underdogs in the series and +104 home dogs in Game 3.
