The Orlando Magic (12-24) are set to host the Memphis Grizzlies (24-13) in one of four NBA matchups slated for Thursday, Jan. 5.

The Magic have an extra pep in their step after Wednesday's 126-115 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder put an end to their three-game losing streak. Meanwhile, Ja Morant dropped a team-high 23 points in last night's 131-107 win against the Charlotte Hornets, helping Memphis win its fourth game in a row.

Can the Magic prove that their latest win wasn't just a fluke? Or will the Grizzlies march into Amway Center and leave with the coveted victory?

Magic vs. Grizzlies Betting Trends

  • The Grizzlies won 51 games against the spread last season, while failing to cover or pushing 31 times.
  • The Magic went 27-29-1 as underdogs of 6 points or more last year.
  • Grizzlies games hit the over 42 out of 82 times last season.
  • Out of 82 Magic games last season, 42 went over the total.

Magic vs. Grizzlies Prediction & Pick

Though the Grizzlies are known for their offense (115.9 PPG, No. 9) and highlight-reel performances, their defense is among the NBA's best lately. On top of holding opponents to 108 or fewer points in each of their last four games, the Grizzlies have limited the opposition to 39.3% shooting from the floor (No. 1) and 31.7% shooting from three-point range (No. 7) over that stretch.

I just can't see that Magic solving the Grizzlies' defense, especially with Orlando averaging the fourth-fewest points (110.2 PPG) in the Association. It also doesn't help that the Magic cough up the ball 16.0 times per game at Amway Center and have been outscored by an average of 9.3 points in their last three games.

There really isn't a reason to believe that the Grizzlies' momentum is in jeopardy tonight.

Final Score Prediction: Grizzlies: 124 | Magic: 112

Magic vs. Grizzlies Best Bet

The Grizzlies shouldn't have an issue leading by a significant margin at halftime. While Memphis averages 58.2 first-half points (No. 10) with a plus-3.4 margin (No. 4), Orlando averages the fourth-fewest points in the first half (55.2) with a minus-2.3 margin at home (fifth-worst).

With the Magic also set to be without key players like Jalen Suggs (ankle), Mo Wagner (suspension) and Bol Bol (COVID-19), the odds of Orlando trailing at halftime are even higher.

Bet: First-Half Spread — Grizzlies -4.5 (-102)
