Mage Preakness Horse Odds, History and Predictions (Can the Kentucky Derby Winner Keep Momentum Going?)

The 2023 Kentucky Derby is in the rearview mirror, meaning horse racing fans are now looking ahead to the 2023 Preakness Stakes. The second leg of the horse racing Triple Crown is set to take place just before 7 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 20.

One contender everyone has their eyes on ahead of this race is Mage, who enters fresh off a victory at the Kentucky Derby. Here's everything you need to know about this colt before he vies for the 2023 Preakness title.

Mage Preakness Odds and Post Position

Mage owns 8-5 odds to win the Preakness Stakes and drew post position No. 3 on Monday. His odds lead all competitors, which should come as no surprise given the 3-year-old colt is coming off a victory at the Kentucky Derby.

Mage Horse Trainer and Jockey

Mage is trained by Gustavo Delgado, who is a four-time Triple Crown winner back in his home country of Venezuela. Mages' Kentucky Derby win was the first of Delgado's career at the storied event.

Mage's jockey for the 2023 Preakness is Javier Castellano, who rode him in the Fountain of Youth Stakes as well as the Kentucky Derby. The 45-year-old is one of the more experienced jockeys in the field and has won the Preakness twice before in 2006 and 2017.

Mage Race History

Mage has a career record of four starts and two wins to go along with a second-place finish all-time. He'll run in the Preakness just two weeks after his thrilling single-length win in the Kentucky Derby.

Mage Preakness Prediction and Pick

Mage was seen as a sneaky contender heading into the Kentucky Derby, but his sudden burst down the final stretch of the race still surprised everyone. While the colt may be labeled as a "rookie" from a horse racing perspective, he has the capability to turn on the jets, which makes him a logical favorite.

It doesn't hurt that Castellano has found success at this race before, too, with a pair of victories under his belt. Keep in mind that 36 horses in history have won both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. Mage has a chance to accomplish that feat as well, which makes backing him in some way a smart move.
