MAC Tournament Bracket

Toledo (25-6) locked up the No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament bracket after going 17-3 in conference play. Kent State (21-9) is the No. 2 seed after finishing 16-4 in MAC action. But the Golden Flashes beat the top seed Rockets in both meetings this season.

Under the format adopted by the conference last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, only the top eight teams in the standings will head to the shores of Lake Erie for the MAC basketball tournament.

MAC Tournament Prediction

Five teams finished with winning conference records led by Toledo (17-3) and Kent State (16-4). Next was Ohio and Akron ant 14-6 followed by Buffalo (13-6). Ball State, Miami Ohio and Central Michigan all had losing conference and overall records.

The Toledo Rockets won their final five games to win the regular season conference title and secure the No. 1 tournament seed for the second straight season. But Toledo's last loss was to Kent State, and the Golden Flashes beat the Rockets in both meetings this season.

Toledo is the clear conference leader in KenPom's offensive efficiency ratings, and rank No. 31 in the country overall. Longtime Rockets coach Tod Kowalczyk's team won the regular season title last season, but lost in the opening round of the MAC Tournament in overtime in a major upset. Toledo will handle Central Michigan in the opening round, and play the Akron/Buffalo winner in the semifinals. Toledo went 3-0 vs Akron and Buffalo this season scoring at least 84 points in all three wins.

Kent State is the MAC leader in KenPom's defensive efficiency ratings, ahead of Ohio and Toledo. Ohio won last year's conference tournament as a No. 5 seed, but the Bobcats enter this year's tournament on a 3-game losing streak. Ohio lost both games against Toledo this season and split with Kent State and scored just 52 points in a blowout loss to the Golden Flashes .

Kent State is playing the best basketball and the hottest team entering the tournament with 12 straight wins. Combined with a pair of wins over Toledo this season, and the best defense and leading senior point guard Sincere Carry, the Golden Flashes are the top threat to win the tournament and likely meet Toledo in the finals.

The top scoring guards in the MAC Tournament are Ohio's Mark Sears (19.4), Toledo's Rollins (19.2) and Kent State's Sincere Carry (18.7).
