Keeneland Horse Racing Picks for Thursday 4/27/23

Updated:

The final two days of the three-week Keeneland Spring Meet continue on Thursday with 9 races and a post time of 1 p.m. ET.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, monitor the weather and keep an eye on the track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races after adjusting for track, distances, and conditions).

Race 5 is an Allowance race for older horses at 1 1/2 miles on the turf. The numberFire algorithm projects the favorite The Grey Wizard (7/5) to win ahead of Wicked Fast (5/2) and Sir for Sure (9/2), who's been off since Oct. and has strong stretch rider Joel Rosario aboard.

The meet's top jockey Tyler Gaffalione rides Wicked Fast, a gelding who has solid triple-digit speed figures in three graded stakes races this year with a best finish of third.

The Grey Wizard is also a gelding who has been off since early Feb. following a fifth-place finish in a graded-stakes race. He races at Keeneland for the first time and does have a pair of runner-up finishes in graded stakes.

The top pick and value per ECHR is Six Minus (8/1) with leading jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. riding for top trainer Todd Pletcher. He fits well class-wise and is running better at longer distances with stronger finish moves down the lane.

2. Be My Sunshine and Gromantine, Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2 and 6/1

Race 7 is an Allowance race for 3-year-old fillies at 1 mile on the turf. The top pick of numberFire and ECHR is Be My Sunshine (7/2) with Tyler Gaffalione riding for EPO trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr.

Be My Sunshine makes her third start having faced better competition with a win and a runner-up finish.

3. Tales of Home and Non Violence, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 6/1 and 3/1

Race 8 is an Allowance race for older horses at 7 furlongs. Ain't Broke (8/1) can challenge for the win according to the numberFire data. Non Violence (3/1) and Take Care (5/1) are projected to hit the board as well.

Tales of Home (6/1) is working well with a pair of bullet works and fits very well class-wise, according to ECHR. It can only help to have the meet's top jockey Tyler Gaffalione riding with the horse placed at a preferred distance.

Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
