Joe Mixon Tweets Upset Reaction to NFL's Playoff Seeding Plans

Updated:
The cancellation of the Cincinnati Bengals' game against the Buffalo Bills in Week 17 will certainly shape playoff seeding in the AFC. The NFL released its lengthy, and somewhat confusing, plan to address the impacts of this contest on Thursday.
It's safe to say Bengals running back Joe Mixon isn't happy with how the Bengals are affected.
Mixon tweeted his thoughts on the NFL's plan. He asked "So we not following the rules no more" and included screenshots of the league's handbook. There is a section that specifically addresses canceled games and their impacts on playoff seeding.
However, the NFL's decision following the Week 17 cancellation seems to go against what its rule book states. Not only has Cincinnati been ruled out of contention for the No. 1 seed, but the team could also play the Wild Card Round on the road in one scenario, if determined by a coin toss.
This doesn't follow the previously established guidelines that say a team's standing is based on its record and playoff tiebreakers should be determined by per game averages.
It's no wonder Mixon is disgruntled. The handbook features clear as day instructions for this kind of scenario. Instead, the league is proposing a potential neutral-site AFC Championship Game if the Bengals (or Buffalo Bills) are involved and coin toss to determine home/away teams in the Wild Card Round.
The NFL certainly has a lot to work through following this cancellation. League owners will meet Friday to vote on the proposed plans, which is sure to be a lively discussion either way.
