Joe Mixon Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Last Season Wasn't a Fluke)
After an injury-plagued 2021 campaign, fantasy managers wondered if they could trust Joe Mixon last year. Fortunately, playing in a high-powered Cincinnati Bengals offense paid off for the veteran rusher, resulting in the best campaign of his career that saw him finish as the RB4 in PPR while averaging 18.0 points per game.
Assuming that Mixon stays healthy and the Bengals offense doesn't regress, it should be another big year for No. 28. Here's a look at everything you need to know about his fantasy outlook ahead of the 2022 NFL season.
Joe Mixon Fantasy Football Outlook
The Bengals had one of the most exciting offenses last season, averaging 26.3 points per game (No. 9). Mixon played a big role in that success, starting in each of the 16 games he played while recording 1,205 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 292 carries.
The Bengals spent a portion of the offseason improving their offensive line to better protect quarterback Joe Burrow. The hope is that the improvements can also help Mixon have an easier time in the run game after Cincinnati averaged only 4.0 yards per carry (T-No. 23) in 2021.
If the Bengals' O-line stays strong, Mixon could be in for another monster year. Considering that he set career highs in last season's conditions, he could reach new heights if the improved offensive line plays as well as it looks on paper.
Joe Mixon Projections
Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook are decently favorable for Mixon. He's in a four-way tie for the fifth-best odds (+1600) to lead the league in rushing next season — a category that saw him finish third in 2021.
FanDuel is also listing his protecting rushing yards total at 1,075.5 with -112 on both the over and under. Mixon shouldn't have any trouble hitting the over considering that he's done so in each of the last three seasons that he's played at least 14 games.
Mixon averaged 4.1 yards on 292 carries last season. There isn't any reason to believe that his workload is going to change, so as long as he sees around 260 or more carries, he shouldn't have an issue reaching the over.
Is Joe Mixon a Good Fantasy Football Pick?
Assuming last season wasn't an anomaly, Mixon is one of the best fantasy picks that you can make. The Bengals' high-powered offense puts them in a position to lead more often than not, giving Mixon a high floor as far as volume is concerned.
Fantasy Pros currently has him listed as the RB7 in PPR formats with an average draft position of 10.7, making him a likely first-round pick. As most of the big names are off the board when you're on the clock, you cannot go wrong with Mixon.
