Jerry Jeudy Fantasy Outlook & Injury Update 2022 (The Broncos' True WR1)
Jerry Jeudy racked up 856 yards and 3 touchdowns during his rookie season and finished as the No. 45 wide receiver in PPR-scoring fantasy football leagues. His 2021 season was a lot different, though, as Jeudy was held to 10 games played due to a high-ankle sprain and finished outside the top 80 WRs.
With that being the case, it's no surprise to see Jeudy outside the range of a WR2 in fantasy football rankings this year. His average draft position (ADP) has him going as the 26th wide receiver off the board and as a late sixth-round selection.
Jerry Jeudy Fantasy Football Outlook
Fantasy football managers have been waiting for two years to see a breakout season from Jerry Jeudy. Poor quarterback play from Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater as well as an ankle injury has held him back so far. There's an opportunity for all of that to change in 2022, mostly due to the fact that Russell Wilson is in town. The Pro Bowl quarterback averages 234.6 passing yards per game and has tossed 292 touchdowns in his career (158 games). Talk about a massive upgrade.
The departure of tight end Noah Fant and the injury suffered by Tim Patrick leaves a lot of targets up for grabs this fall. 175 targets from the 2021 season to be exact, including 27 targets in the red zone. Jeudy has found little success getting into the end zone in his career. Keep in mind that both DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett have tallied at least eight touchdowns in each of the last two seasons. Wilson is fully capable of guiding both Jeudy and Courtland Sutton to dynamic seasons.
It's also worth noting that while Sutton out-targeted Jeudy on the season, it was Jeudy who saw more targets when the two of them both played. In fact, following Jeudy's return from injury last year, Sutton was No. 3 in targets among Broncos wideouts (trailing both Jeudy and Patrick).
Look for Jeudy to split snaps between the outside and the slot position. He was drafted in the first round back in 2020 because of his ability to create separation with crisp route-running skills. He has shown that capability at the NFL level, yet it hasn't resulted in consistent production yet. Everything is in line for that to change this time around. Jeudy has the ceiling of a reliable WR2.
Jerry Jeudy Injury Update
As mentioned above, Jeudy was unable to put together a full season in 2021 due to a right high-ankle sprain. He went down in Week 1 and missed the next six games for the Broncos. It was clear from that point on that Jeudy wasn't quite right and a full offseason to recover would hopefully change things.
A strained groin kept Jeudy off the field for a short time during OTAs, but he was ready to go by the start of training camp in July. That's especially important given fellow WR Tim Patrick suffered a torn ACL on Tuesday and will be out for the season. Jeudy is now the clear-cut No. 2 WR for Denver.
Jerry Jeudy Projections
Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook expect Jeudy to have a massive 2022 campaign. He's 11th to lead the NFL in receiving yards (+3000), which compares to where Keenan Allen finished the 2021 season at with 1,138 yards. Jeudy's also 19th to lead the NFL in receiving touchdowns. That is obviously going to be a much harder title to take home considering Jeudy only has 3 touchdowns to his name across 26 games played. When taking the Alabama product's career averages into account (3.5 touches per game, 14.4-yard average), an 850-yard season seems to be Jeudy's floor. That means a 1,000-yard season is certainly in reach if he can stay healthy.
Is Jerry Jeudy a Good Fantasy Football Pick?
When it comes down to it, is Jeudy someone to target in the middle rounds? Definitely. His ceiling is higher than that of many players drafted around him. He's the No. 21 wide receiver in The Duel's PPR fantasy football rankings, and is a great target for managers prioritizing the RB position first.
Drafting Jeudy doesn't come without risks, but that's just part of playing fantasy football. He is in the perfect situation to put all of the pieces together and is back to full health. Having his upside on your roster compared to an opponent's is a huge benefit.
