Jalen Ramsey and Aaron Rodgers Have Faced Off Once, and Ramsey Dominated
Having been in the NFL for only six seasons and playing over half of his games in the AFC with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jalen Ramsey hasn't spent much time facing off with the top quarterbacks in the NFC.
In fact, this week's matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers will be only the second time Ramsey has played against Aaron Rodgers and star wideout Davante Adams.
The first time Ramsey and Rodgers met was in Week 1 of the 2016 season — the very first game of Ramsey's pro career.
Even though he was making his debut against a two-time MVP, Ramsey was clearly a special player from the jump
Aaron Rodgers vs Jalen Ramsey
Aaron Rodgers ultimately had a fine game in their first meeting. His 199 yards on 20-of-34 passing was nothing special, but he threw 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions in a 27-23 win.
His stats looked a whole lot different when throwing at Ramsey, however.
Ramsey was on the field for 61 snaps, and according to ProFootballFocus, when Rodgers threw at Ramsey he completed 3 of his 4 passes for just 23 yards, with none of those three catches going for more than 10 yards.
Rodgers received a reasonable overall grade of 68.6 in the game from PFF, but when targeting Ramsey, that grade fell to 56.1 — the lowest of any defender he threw at.
Davante Adams vs Jalen Ramsey
That was also the only game in which Jalen Ramsey and Davante Adams have ever faced off, but we didn't actually get to see much of that matchup. Ramsey wasn't shadowing Adams, and he was only in coverage for 1 of Adams' targets (a 5-yard reception on a screen pass).
Adams is PFF's highest-graded receiver for the 2020 season, and Ramsey checks in as their ninth-highest graded cornerback in coverage. This is going to be an incredible matchup to watch all game.
FanDuel Sportsbook's Divisional Round odds have the Packers favored by a touchdown, at -7 for this meeting.
