Jalen Hurts Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Top QB Should Be Even Better With Star Weapon)

Jalen Hurts' ascension as a fantasy star was a major story from the 2021 season. In his first full year as the Philadelphia Eagles' starter, Hurts finished as QB9 thanks to his dual-threat abilities.

Hurts put up top quarterback numbers despite average passing numbers, but that's an area that could improve in a big way with the addition of star wide receiver A.J. Brown. His potential to challenge for the QB1 in fantasy makes him a value with a current middle-round average draft position (ADP).

Jalen Hurts Fantasy Football Outlook

From a fantasy perspective, Hurts shined across his 15 starts in 2021. Though he threw for only 3,144 yards (No. 21) and 16 TDs (T-No. 23), he made supplemented his production with impressive rushing numbers. Hurts posted a whopping 139 carries, 784 yards and 10 TDs on the ground last season, all of which ranked No. 1 among QBs.

It's easy to see how Hurts' output as a runner could be similar in 2022. He remains the Eagles' top rushing threat after they made no significant additions there this offseason. Nick Sirianni was clearly happy to run the ball in his first year, as Philadelphia posted the second-most attempts on the ground in 2021, so Hurts will have those opportunities.

The one area where Hurts could get even better is as a passer. The acquisition of A.J. Brown finally gives Hurts a star pass-catcher to target after playing with a barren WR corps in 2021. Brown is a physical menace at 6-foot-1, 226 pounds who's posted 1,000-plus yards in two of his first three NFL seasons. His status as a top deep threat (career average of 16.2 yards per reception) should open things up for Hurts down the field and lead to some improved numbers.

Jalen Hurts Projections

NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook project Hurts to hit another level as a passer in 2022. His passing yard total sits at 3,450.5, and he's clearly favored to hit the over (-142) rather than go under (+112) that mark. The odds also see him throwing more touchdowns this year with a total of 23.5 and an equal -112 mark for both outcomes. Hurts' current career highs are 3,144 yards and 16 TDs, set last year.

Is Jalen Hurts a Good Fantasy Football Pick?

So is Jalen Hurts a good fantasy pick? Absolutely. He could even end up being a league-winner with his current ADP of 68 overall, which pegs him as a middle-round selection. Top QBs Josh Allen (ADP 24 overall), Patrick Mahomes (ADP 34 overall) and Justin Herbert (ADP 37 overall) are all being taken in early rounds.

Targeting Hurts in the fifth or sixth round allows managers to nab more top-end skill-position talent before getting the Eagles' signal-caller, who should have a career year after already being one of fantasy's top performers in 2021.
