Is Ben Simmons Playing Tonight? Latest News on Injury Status for Nets vs Spurs (Jan. 17)

Updated:

The Brooklyn Nets are back in action Tuesday night against the San Antonio Spurs at 8 p.m. ET. One player's status to keep an eye in ahead of tip-off is Ben Simmons, who sat out Brooklyn's last contest due to back soreness.

Ben Simmons Injury Status 1/17/2023

The latest news on Simmons is great for the Nets. He has been officially removed from the team's injury report for Tuesday's matchup, meaning he should return to the court to face the Spurs.

Though Simmons has struggled to stay healthy recently, his absence this past Sunday was his first missed game since Dec. 10. His removal from the injury report after just one contest indicates this is a minor issue that shouldn't impact him in any way.

In his last time out, the point-forward was scoreless, but he stuffed the stat sheet with 13 assists, 9 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block. Overall, he's averaging 7.5 PPG, 6.7 RPG and 6.2 APG across 31 appearances for Brooklyn this season.

Ben Simmons Injury History

Simmons has missed time throughout his career for a myriad of reasons. This season, he's popped up on the injury report due to knee, back, calf and illness issues.

So far, Simmons has missed 11 of the Nets' 42 games this season. His most recent absence was on Jan. 15 against the Oklahoma City Thunder due to back soreness.

Ben Simmons News Today (Jan. 17, 2023)

Simmons is expected to play Tuesday night against the Spurs after being removed from the injury report.

He has been given over/unders of 8.5 points (-113 over/-113 under), 7.5 rebounds (-128/+100) and 7.5 assists (-125/-102), according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NBA odds. Notching at least 8 assists in two of his last three games, taking the over on Simmons' assists (-125) is a smart choice, especially against a San Antonio defense giving up the most PPG to opponents.

On FanDuel Fantasy, Simmons boasts both PG and PF eligibility for DFS. He's set at a price tag of $6,900 for Tuesday night. Simmons is averaging a decent 28.6 FanDuel fantasy PPG, though he relies on huge rebounding and assist totals to make up for his lack of scoring. Against the struggling Spurs, he could be a nice value.
