Time: 6 p.m. ET
Venue: Thomas & Mack Center — Las Vegas, NV
Coverage: ESPN2

The Charlotte Hornets and Indiana Pacers both kick off their Las Vegas Summer League action on Friday. Charlotte's roster for this tournament is headlined by 2022 first-round pick Mark Williams. Fans are hoping Williams can help solve the Hornets' center issues considering they haven't had one average double-digit points and rebounds in a season since 2008.

The Pacers, meanwhile, will get to see No. 6 overall pick Bennedict Mathurin suit up. The 6-foot-6 guard projects to be an immediate playmaker for Indiana after averaging 17.7 points per game during his senior season at Arizona.

Hornets vs Pacers Prediction & Pick

The Hornets have a roster filled with upside with the likes of Kai Jones and JT Thor both set to play. Jones excelled in the NBA G League last year, averaging 18.3 points and 10.3 rebounds. Meanwhile, Thor appeared in the most games for the Hornets out of any Charlotte rookie (33).

Charlotte doesn't have anyone playing that can compare to second-year pro Chris Duarte, though. Duarte put together a respectable rookie campaign with the Pacers, averaging 13.1 points, 41. rebounds and 2.1 assists in 28.0 minutes. His experience should help Mathurin as well as second-round picks Andrew Nembhard and Kendall Brown adjust to Indiana's style of play.

I'll take a battle-tested Duarte to help the Pacers cover the -4.5 spread (-102).
