3 Free Agents the Saints Need to Sign to Make the Playoffs Next Season

Updated:
The New Orleans Saints have left their fans wanting more throughout the 2022 NFL season. As they prepare for their Week 18 matchup with the Carolina Panthers, the Saints are set to miss the playoffs for the second straight season, which is extremely disappointing considering how bad the NFC South was this year.
General manager Mickey Loomis will likely be busy this offseason, figuring out how to help end the Saints' playoff drought before it worsens. Fortunately, this year's crop of free agents brings several players that can help New Orleans become a postseason threat again.
Here are three free agents that the Saints need to sign to make the playoffs in 2023.
Saints Free Agency
1. Jacoby Brissett, QB
Quarterback was one of the Saints' weakest positions this season as Jameis Winston, Andy Dalton and Taysom Hill didn't exactly impress under center. The good news is that New Orleans can go after several affordable arms, including Jacoby Brissett. The veteran gunslinger exceeded the Cleveland Browns' expectations during Deshaun Watson's suspension, completing a career-best 64.0% of passes while racking up 2,608 passing yards and 12 touchdowns to six interceptions in 11 starts. Is he a permanent solution? No, but Brissett is good enough to get the Saints back into the playoffs with access to weapons like Chris Olave, Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara.
2. D'Onta Foreman, RB
The Saints' running back room is set to take a hit this offseason with Mark Ingram, Dwayne Washington and David Johnson all set to become free agents. With Kamara also still dealing with legal issues, it'd be wise if management made a play for D'Onta Foreman. The Carolina Panthers rusher excelled after Christian McCaffrey was traded, racking up 809 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 179 carries over 10 games. Surpassing 100 yards on five different occasions, Foreman proved that he has what it takes to lead a backfield when given the chance. Even if Kamara doesn't miss any time at all, Foreman has a higher upside than the other RBs the Saints used this season, improving their odds of making the 2023 postseason.
3. Dre'Mont Jones, DL
The Saints' defensive line could use some work after surrendering 129.7 rushing yards per game (T-No. 21). As Shy Tuttle and Kentavius Street are set to become free agents, one player that New Orleans should look at is Dre'Mont Jones. The former Ohio State Buckeye has recorded a career-high 47 tackles in 13 games with the Denver Broncos this season, only missing 2.1% of his attempts. He's also shown solid pass-rush skills, tallying 6.5 sacks, 10 QB hits and 16 pressures. Jones also brings some versatility to the table, being able to play both on the interior and exterior of the d-line. There's no question that Jones is a disruptor on defense and if the Saints can bring him in, they'll be a much better team for it.
