Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Sleepers for Week 2

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Sleepers for Week 2

Updated:

Even if you've gotten off to a slow start, sometimes you're just a move or two away from turning your season around. And even the smallest of moves can reap the biggest rewards.

If you need to make some more moves on the margins, here are three of the best fantasy football waiver wire sleepers for Week 2.

Waiver Wire Sleepers Week 2

Note: Only players rostered in fewer than 20% of Yahoo! fantasy football leagues are in consideration for this list.

1. Jeff Wilson Jr., RB, San Francisco 49ers (19% Rostered)

Elijah Mitchell went down in Week 1 with a knee issue, and the 49ers indicated he's heading to the IR. That spells a strong Week 2 performance from Jeff Wilson, who ended up logging a team-leading (outside of Trey Lance) nine carries. His 22 yards wasn't inspiring but Wilson did catch passes on both of his targets. The most important factor? No other running back logged a single snap for the 49ers, meaning this is Wilson's job (and his alone) until Mitchell returns. The Seahawks are a tough red zone test, but still allowed 103 yards and 28 PPR points to Denver's RBs on Monday night Football.

2. Curtis Samuel, WR, Washington Commanders (8% Rostered)

Curtis Samuel was one of the biggest fantasy surprises in Week 1, finishing off a WR13 performance thanks to 11 targets for 8 receptions, 55 yards and 1 TD. This is a player who entered the year with an ADP of WR90 (No. 277 overall) and cracked the top-24 fantasy wideouts just once in his career. Terry McLaurin is still the No. 1 WR on this roster, even if that wasn't evidenced by his 4 targets, but Samuel played a respectable 71% of the offensive snaps. He was also used in a gadget role, tallying four rushing attempts for 17 yards. Considering the Commanders play a bad Detroit Lions defense in Week 2, let's see if Samuel continues to build chemistry with is new QB Carson Wentz in town.

3. Cooper Rush, QB, Dallas Cowboys (0% Rostered)

Consider this our biggest sleeper of the week, but QB streamers may want to consider adding Cooper Rush for Week 2 and beyond. Even though the Cowboys won't put him on the IR, Dak Prescott will be out for at least a few weeks. And unless Jerry Jones pulls off a dramatic trade, this is Rush's job. Rush has next to no experience with just one career start, but put up QB12 numbers against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8 of the 2021 season. This included 325 passing yards and 2 TDs. Dallas squares off against a Bengals secondary that looked good against the Steelers, outside of the 23 points allowed. It's the future matchups that help raise Rush's value. His Cowboys play NFC East basement dwellers, the New York Giants and Washington Commanders in Weeks 3 and 4.
