Eagles Trade Offer for Christian McCaffrey Revealed

Updated:

A big domino fell in the NFL trade market last week when running back Christian McCaffrey was dealt from the Carolina Panthers to the San Francisco 49ers. A multitude of teams were said to be in the running, including the Philadelphia Eagles. NFL insider Albert Breer provided details on that front.

Breer explained that the Eagles were among a few teams to inquire about McCaffrey's price tag on Tuesday, October 18. It's worth noting this was a few days after Carolina told the first teams to come calling that a first-round pick was wanted. Philly never had intentions of submitting that kind of offer.

Instead, general manager Howie Roseman extended a third-rounder or fourth-rounder to see if Carolina had any wiggle room after negotiating for days with other squads. That was not the case, though, as the Panthers moved forward and ended up accepting a deal involving four draft picks.

Roseman is the type of GM that will call anyone and everyone if there is even the slightest chance that he can improve the the roster. He exhausts every avenue, so looking at this as anything but a "check-in" would be a stretch. Parting with valuable draft picks would've been a bold move here.

It's not like the Eagles are in desperate need of a RB right now. Philadelphia can feel comfortable moving forward with Miles Sanders considering he is averaging a career-high 80.8 rushing yards per game. As a team, the Eagles are putting up the sixth-most yards per game on the ground (156.0).

Philadelphia has the second-best odds to win Super Bowl 57 at +550, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
