Duke vs Stephen F. Austin Spread Ranks as Biggest College Basketball Upset in Recorded History
Duke basketball is no stranger to setting college basketball records, however, the Blue Devils found themselves on the wrong side of history in that regard Tuesday night.
As enormous road underdogs, Stephen F. Austin's stunning buzzer-beater win over the No. 1 Blue Devils in overtime was the biggest upset win by spread in college basketball history, and had the biggest difference ever in the 2020 POMEROY power rankings.
Duke vs Stephen F. Austin Spread
The Blue Devils hosted Stephen F. Austin in Cameron Indoor Stadium for their seventh game of the season as towering 28.5-point home favorites over the visiting Lumberjacks, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
However, when the OT buzzer sounded, Duke couldn't even get the best of Stephen F. Austin straight up after the Lumberjacks battled back from a 15-point deficit in the first half.
Biggest Upset in College Basketball History
As mentioned above, Duke's loss to Stephen F. Austin as a 28.5-point favorite is now the biggest upset loss in college basketball history.
Tuesday night's incredible result comes a little more than two weeks after we already saw then-No. 1 Kentucky shocked by unranked Evansville as 25-point home favorites as well.
The Blue Devils' stunning 85-83 overtime loss to SFA also snapped Duke's 150-game winning streak against non-conference opponents at home, which was a streak that dated back to 2000.
There's still plenty of basketball left to be played in the 2019-20 season, but it looks like a hint of March Madness has already snuck its way into November.
