Dolphins Get Big Teddy Bridgewater Injury Update Ahead of Week 6

After injuries to their top-two quarterbacks, the Miami Dolphins can use all the positivity that they can get. Fortunately, they got just that when NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that No. 2 QB Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) is scheduled to return to practice on Thursday, albeit on a limited and non-contact basis.

This news comes after Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed that rookie QB Skylar Thompson would get the start against the Minnesota Vikings this weekend. Nevertheless, this is a major step in Bridgewater's return to the lineup.

Teddy Bridgewater Injury Update

Bridgewater suffered a concussion on the only snap he saw during his team's 40-17 loss to the New York Jets in Week 5. Considering how he was held to only aerobic activities on Wednesday, the Dolphins should be thrilled with his progression.

The NFL's concussion protocol includes a five-step return plan. Aerobic exercises take place in the second step, while the third and fourth phases involve "football-specific exercises" and non-contact drills, respectively. Assuming Rapoport's report to be true, it appears as if Bridgewater is nearly at the final step.

The 29-year-old QB has gone 14-of-26 on his passes this season for 193 passing yards and a touchdown with an interception. While those stats aren't exactly eye-popping, Bridgewater certainly gives the Dolphins a better chance at success in Tagovailoa's absence compared to a rookie third-stringer.

Even if Bridgewater clears protocol, McDaniel has already confirmed that he isn't comfortable with starting the veteran in back-to-back games following his concussion. Hopefully, Thompson can do a good job at fending off the Vikings to get the Dolphins' season back on track.

Vikings vs Dolphins Odds

Unsurprisingly, Thompson getting the start means that Miami has an uphill battle ahead. The Dolphins are currently 3.5-point home underdogs to the Dolphins, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's latest NFL odds.
