Del Mar Horse Racing Picks for Sunday 8/21/22

Updated:
Starting at 5:00 p.m. ET, we have 10 races Sunday at Del Mar "Where the Turf meets the Surf."
As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.
(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

According to numberFire horse racing projections, these are the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing today.
1. For a Laugh, Race 3
FanDuel Racing Odds: 6/5 and 4/1

Race 3 is a Maiden Special Weight for 2-year-olds going 1-mile on the turf. The numberFire data likes the favorite For A Laugh (9/5) to win with Valiancer (4/1) and Rich Golf (6/1) to hit the board.
Euro import For a Laugh faces maidens after finishing fourth in a Group 3 race in England. He has a pair of 7 furlong sprints and looks most qualified. Pretty open after the top pick to include other longshots underneath in exacta and trifecta wagering.
2. Home Cooking and Muteki, Race 7
FanDuel Racing Odds: 2/1 and 5/2

Race 7 is full field of 2-yar-old Maiden fillies sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs.
Muteki (5/2) is the top pick of numberFire, and she's a $1 million purchase trained by Bob Baffert with the meets top jockey Juan Hernandez riding.
The controversial Baffert also has the favorite Home Cooking (2/1) with Mike Smith riding. She's training well after finishig a tiring third running on the lead with blistering fractions last race.
3. Home Cooking and Muteki, Race 8
FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/1 and 5/2

Race 8 is the $150,000 Solona Beach Stakes for Cal-bred fillies and mares going 1-mile on the turf. Eddie's New Dream (5/2) is the favorite and top choice according to the numberFire algorithm. She's finished second twice including at this distance on the turf.
Warren's Candy Girl (5/1) is an in-the-money projection of numberFire, and she wheels back after an impressive NIX win. She saved energy and showed a strong stretch burst in winning last weekend and top turf rider Umberto Rispoli takes over.
