Del Mar Horse Racing Picks for Saturday 7/23/22

Updated:

Starting at 5:00 p.m. ET, we have 10 races Saturday at Del Mar on opening weekend "Where the Turf meets the Surf."

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

According to numberFire Racing's projections, these are the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing today.

1. My Kentucky Girl and Feathers, Race 3

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/1 and 8/1

Race 3 is an Allowance race for fillies and mares at 1-mile on the turf. The numberFire data projects Feathers (8/1) to stride home a winner ahead of Karakatsi (6/1) and Gallovie (8/1).

But lightly-raced My Kentucky Girl (5/1) should show her speed with her sprint speed figures among the highest in this field of 12 runners. She beat Lady T two races back, and Lady T is a contender in today's Grade 2 in Race 11.

2. Right Reasons and Otter Pop, Race 4

FanDuel Racing Odds: 6/1 and 6/1

Race 4 is a Maiden Special Weight for 2-year-old fillies sprinting 5 furlongs. A large field of competitive juvenile fillies, and the favorite Halosnheaven (5/2) is the projected winner with Otter Pop (6/1) and Satin Doll (15/1) also in the mix.

First-time starter Right Reasons (6/1) is one to include in exacta and trifecta betting. She looked good in a team work earlier this month viewed on video by Del Mar handicapper Brad Free.

3. Lady T and Island of Love, Race 11

FanDuel Racing Odds: 6/1 and 5/1

Race 11 is the $200,000 San Clemente (G2) for 3-year-old fillies at 1-mile on the turf. The race drew a deep field of 12 fillies, and the top win contenders according to Horse Racing Nation is Lady T (6/1), Bellabel (4/1), Island of Love (5/1) and Countess Resina (8/1).

The numberFire projections agree with Lady T a winner over Island of Love.

EPO trainer Phil D'Amato has four runners in the race including top challengers Bellabel, Island of Love and Helens Well (8/1) - all Irish bred.
