Dark Horse Picks to Win PGA 2023 Valspar Championship on FanDuel Sportsbook
Some of the world's top golfers will make a short 2.5-hour trip from the PLAYERS Championship to this week's Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor for the final leg of the Florida Swing.
The Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort is a tree-lined positional course that plays to approximately 7,340 yards and Par 71. The field includes five of the top 20 players in the world golf rankings and 10 of the top 50. That opens the door for more longshots to battle the leading favorites like Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Matt Fitzpatrick and two-time defending champion Sam Burns.
Following wins by dark horse picks Max Homa in the Farmers Insurance Open and Adam Svensson in the RSM Classic, there are opportunities to cash in on other players behind the leading favorites. that includes for a top-10 or top-20 finish like dark horse Jason Day last week at The PLAYERS.
Valspar Championship Dark Horse Picks 2023
Beyond the favorites, there are plenty of capable longshots and dark horses that could make a run at the leaderboard and come away with a higher finish or victory on Sunday. After all, did you see Kurt Kitayama win the Arnold Palmer Invitational at 220/1 odds or greater?

1. Tommy Fleetwood (+2400)
Fleetwood fell apart Sunday at the PLAYERS Championship. He started the day T-4 looking at a $1M payday or better. After a +4 round of 76 -- the worst of any top 60 finishers -- Fleetwood fell to T-27 and a $167K payday. Not bad, but not what you expect from a solid ball striker and short game/scrambling specialist when you're betting on these guys. This week, Fleetwood fits the stats models and should contend in a much weaker field than last week's event.
2. Davis Riley (+3100)
Riley finished second here last year after losing in a playoff to Sam Burns. The 26-year-old former Alabama golfer has missed more cuts than expected this year but did finish top-30 at Honda and T-8 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational against a stronger field. His short game stats are a concern thus far in 2023, but he putted very well and added strong around-the-green and short game stats at Copperhead on debut last year. Riley also had a top-5 finish at comp course Colonial CC last year, giving bettors more support that he'll get through the 'Snake Pit' and Copperhead Course in good order again.
3. Kramer Hickok (+9500)
Along with dark horse Ben Griffin as outlined in the Valspar Championship preview, let's go down the betting board further. Kramer Hickok's stats don't stand out since he missed eight straight cuts until recent finishes of top-30 at Genesis, T-14 Honda and top-50 last week at THE PLAYERS. But he's 3-for-3 in made cuts at Valspar and was inside the top 10 at some stage in each event with a best finish of T-33 last year after an opening round of 66. He's played well in Florida, making him a dark horse sleeper to add to top-finishing position bets as well.
