Dak Prescott Fantasy Outlook Soaring After Latest Injury Update

It's been a rough season so far for Dak Prescott and his fantasy managers, but the injured QB finally had some good news to share after the Dallas Cowboys' Week 6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dak Prescott Fantasy Outlook

Prescott has not played since suffering a thumb injury during Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After undergoing surgery to repair the the issue on his right (throwing) thumb, he's indicated that he'll be ready to return in Week 7 against the Detroit Lions.

This is great news for Prescott's fantasy managers, who immediately had to find an alternative at the position and use a bench or IR spot on Prescott if they wanted to keep him. While Prescott struggled versus Tampa Bay before going down, he's coming off a strong 2021 campaign that saw him throw for 4,449 yards and a career-high 37 touchdowns, ranking top-10 in both categories.

Although Prescott no longer has Amari Cooper, he still has a solid pass-catching corps featuring CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, Noah Brown and Dalton Schultz. He also has a juicy home matchup on tap against a Lions defense that's giving up the most points per game (34.0) in the NFL, making him a must-start in his return with top-10 upside at the position.

The two-time Pro Bowler's presence immediately elevates the fantasy stock of almost every receiver on the Cowboys' offense. His replacement, Cooper Rush, was a game manager who averaged just 170 passing yards per game, 6.5 yards per attempt and a 3.2 TD%. Prescott has averaged 258.3 passing yards per game, 7.6 yards per attempt and a 4.9 TD% throughout his career, reflecting the sizable talent gap between them.

Running backs Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard will likely be utilized less frequently going forward as the offense becomes more pass-heavy under Prescott, but they should still be busy against Detroit, especially if Dallas builds up an early lead or if Prescott is rusty in his first game back.
