D'Andre Swift Fantasy Outlook Clouded by Latest Injury Update in Week 9

D'Andre Swift played a limited role upon his return from injury in Week 8 and his performance wasn't exactly inspiring. The dynamic running back rushed just 5 times for 6 yards, but a 5-catch and 1 TD receiving day salvaged his RB18 status in PPR leagues.

Unfortunately, the Lions continue to take things slow with their RB1.

Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Swift will be active against the Green Bay Packers, but "likely used sparingly." This creates some hesitation around his fantasy status.

D'Andre Swift Fantasy Outlook

Swift played in just 55% of the offensive snaps upon his return. That's a far cry from the 67% of snaps he played in Week 1, the lone healthy start of his 2022 campaign. He also accounted for just 26% of the rushing share compared to Jamaal Williams' 52%.

This is merely a word of caution. Fantasy managers cannot afford to keep Swift on the bench. He's possesses far too much value as a pass-catcher, racking up two of his three TDS through the air.

Swift still ranks as RB34 in terms of season stats, despite playing in just 4 games. His fantasy season has been very TD dependent, scoring four different times in those appearances.

Don't be surprised if Swift fails to finish as a top-24 RB in Week 9. Even against a Packers defense that ranks 28th in Football Outsiders' rush-defense DVOA. And while he's far too TD dependent for my liking, he's also been a perfect 4-for-4 on scoring when he plays. Fantasy managers should consider this risky option more in the FLEX than an RB2 start, especially if your roster has a pair of RBs with safer workloads.
