Churchill Downs Horse Racing Picks for Thursday 5/11/23

Updated:

Following the Kentucky Derby and a huge weekend of racing, the Churchill Downs Spring Meet continues. There are 8 races on Thursday, May 11 for the Downs After Dark program with first post at 5 p.m. ET.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, monitor the weather, and keep an eye on the track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races after adjusting for track, distances, and conditions).

Churchill Downs Betting Picks

According to numberFire horse racing projections and Guaranteed Tip Sheet (GTS), these are some of the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing today.

Did you follow FanDuel Racing picks and cash in a 3-for-3 day at Churchill Downs on May 4? All six win picks finished in the money providing additional Exacta and Trifecta payoffs. Also, in recent picks at Keeneland, Time For Trouble (18/1) cashed $2 win bets for $37.50 and a $2 exacta paid $189.

Twighlight racing begins with a baby Maiden race for 2-year-olds sprinting 5 furlongs. The numberFire data and Guaranteed Tip Sheet land on Callin My Name (9/2) to win ahead of Patch O'Brien (6/1) and Frosty the Giant (5/2).

Callin My Name pressed the pace and finished third a month ago and will look to improve his 77-speed figure.

2. Vintage Print and Harlan Estate, Race 5

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/1 and 8/1

Race 5 is an Allowance race at 1 1/8 miles on the turf. The favorite Eleven Central (9/5) is scratched. The numberFire algorithm and Guaranteed Tip Sheet both like Vintage Print (5/1) as a top win contender, while numberFire likes Harlan Estate (8/1) to challenge.

Vintage Print makes his 2023 debut. The 3-time winner went wire-to-wire last summer and has many strong speed figures. His recent fast morning works add to his readiness for a good return to the track.

3. Principe d'Oro and Giant Game, Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2 and 3/1

Race 7 is an Allowance race at 1 3/16 miles and has been reduced to 9 runners following some scratches. The favorites Giant Game (3/1) and Principe d'Oro (5/2) are top win contenders.

Principe d'Oro has finished in the money in two Allowance races this year, including a runner-up finish last out after holding the lead from the gate to the stretch as the favorite. Top jockey/trainer combo John Velazquez and Todd Pletcher team up for a good effort.

Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
