Chiefs Get Concerning Mecole Hardman Injury Update After Playoff Bye

Updated:

The Kansas City Chiefs are currently gearing up to face the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Divisional Round. Kansas City had the luxury of sitting out Wild Card Weekend, allowing players an extra week of rest before a hopefully long playoff run.

However, it appears the time off didn't help in the case of wide receiver Mecole Hardman.

Head coach Andy Reid told reporters on Tuesday that the wideout was the only player who wouldn't be practicing. Reid added Hardman's injury hasn't responded well to his rehab, so Kansas City is expected to pull back on his reps.

This isn't very encouraging news. Hardman last suited up for the Chiefs in Week 9, which is when he first suffered this abdominal injury. The issue then forced him to hit the injured reserve list, but he was activated before the regular season finale. Hardman then didn't play in that contest, and it sounds like he still needs more time to get back to 100%.

Kansas City will certainly miss the playmaker if he's forced to sit against Jacksonville. Hardman racked up a whopping five touchdowns in his last three games before being forced out, showcasing his ability to make things happen with the ball in his hands.

It's looking like the Chiefs will have to get by the Jags without Hardman in the fold. Kansas City is currently slated as an 8.5-point favorite ahead of Saturday's contest, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
