Chase Claypool Tweets Emotional Goodbye to Steelers Fans

All the signs pointed to the Pittsburgh Steelers trading Chase Claypool by this year's deadline. That's exactly what happened on Tuesday, as the Steelers sent the former second-round pick to the Chicago Bears.

Following the trade becoming official, Claypool tweeted out an emotional goodbye to fans in Pittsburgh.

The third-year pro said he'll "always have an unbelievable amount of love for Steelers Nation" on Tuesday. Claypool noted he's "beyond grateful" for the time and memories he was able to make in Pittsburgh. He also expressed excitement to be headed back to the Midwest after starring at Notre Dame in college.

Claypool's standout performance for the Fighting Irish led the Steelers to make him the No. 49 overall selection in 2020. He started off his career hot, racking up 62 receptions, 873 yards and 11 total touchdowns as a rookie.

However, he failed to reach those same heights again in 2021. He then saw reduced usage this season with rookie George Pickens challenging for WR2 duties, clearing the way for Claypool's exit.

Though Claypool likely didn't envision his Steeler tenure ending like this, his message was a great note to leave off on. Pittsburgh, meanwhile, will be happy to land a second-round pick to aid in its rebuild.
