Cardinals Get Bad News With Dylan Carlson's Injury Update

For the past week, Dylan Carlson has been absent from the St. Louis Cardinals' lineup. This absence came on the heels of a wrist sprain he suffered on Aug. 12.

With growing concern around the Cardinals' fanbase, those fears were confirmed when St. Louis announced Carlson was headed to the 10-day injured list on Tuesday.

The 10-day IL stint will be retroactive to Aug. 14, which is the one piece of a silver lining in this latest injury update.

Dylan Carlson Injury Update

Carlson last played on Thursday, Aug. 12 against the Pittsburgh Pirates, when he suffered this wrist sprain. According to reports, the 22-year-old outfielder has been working on the side to get back to full strength, but no progress has been made.

As a result, St. Louis' top-30 prospect Lars Nootbaar will see some extended playing time for the next couple of weeks. Carlson isn't the flashiest bat in this lineup, but he's painted a picture of consistency throughout the 2021 campaign. The young outfielder has appeared in 112 games, missing the past three and only two others to kick off the year.

Carlson's slashing .261/.341/.419 with 24 doubles, 12 home runs and 46 RBIs during his sophomore campaign. The Cardinals remain just 4.0 games out of the National League Wild Card race and are hoping to get their starting outfielder back as quickly as possible.

Currently, St. Louis owns longshot +1260 odds to make the postseason, according to MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
