Bruins on Pace for Mind-Boggling NHL Record

Updated:

The Boston Bruins won yet again on Wednesday night, topping the New Jersey Devils, 3-1. The victory improved Boston's record to 28-4-3 -- far and away the best mark in the NHL.

The Bruins have been close to unbeatable all season, winning games at a historic clip. Their stellar start has them on pace to go down as one of the best teams in NHL history.

While there's still a long way to go, Boston is currently on track to finish with the best record in NHL history. At their present rate, the Bruins would finish the regular season with a 66-9-7 mark, which would be the best record in the NHL's modern era by a considerable margin.

The current record for most wins in an NHL season is 62, which was set by the 1995-1996 Detroit Red Wings and equaled by the 2018-2019 Tampa Bay Lightning. Boston's franchise record for wins is 57 from the 1970-1971 campaign, which was sandwiched between the team's Stanley Cup titles in 1970 and 1972.

Obviously a lot can happen between now and the end of the season, and injuries are always a risk in a violent sport like hockey. That said, the Bruins are built for success with their high-powered offense (1st in goals scored) and elite goaltending (fewest goals allowed).

Of course, none of it means much if Boston doesn't lift the Stanley Cup next spring. The Bruins are currently co-favorites with the Colorado Avalanche to do so at +600 on FanDuel Sportsbook's NHL odds.
